2/11/2018 UF Campus, Clouds and Lion King

In the search for our "missing" YSA, Mike has been calling the Registrar's office every morning, giving them five names to see if they are enrolled.  He has been calling almost every morning since the second week we got here, and the first list is finished - not always productive, but even if you find one it is a success.  So, we took treats over to their office today, the first time we had walked across that part of campus.  The buildings are old, the auditorium was built 1922-24.
Not sure who the statue is, but it looks cool.
 University Auditorium
The interior - their picture.

The organ as it looks now, it is magnificent.
The original organ is pictured below.  It was donated in 1923.
During WW II and after, due to the economy, it was not well maintained.  The first renovations and reconstruction of the organ began in 1965-70, the complete auditorium renovation finished in 1977.
The Centennial Tower is a memorial to the first one hundred years of the University and was dedicated in 1953 in honor of the alumni lost in WWI and WWII.
Area close to the library where the students study.
Sometimes I think we take pictures of "every squirrel in the Grand Canyon."  Nevertheless the clouds here all look different by the day and time .. so enjoy .. we do.  you can see the birds in the last one.

Last Friday night, the mission gathered all the O-Zone (Senior Couples) in Jacksonville for dinner at Clark's Fish Camp - it has been there for years and is drenched in old southern atmosphere
It is all rustic, has been there for 25+ years and is well kept up, and always crowded they say.  The locals say you can order anything - they don't have anything that isn't good.  Crab stuffed flounder is a favorite - not sure of whom, as is Boudin Ala Nawlins - translation - Cajun sausage stuffed with crawfish.  We'll pass on those and on alligator tail bits - even though they are deep fried.
Our food choices were excellent - we even tried fried green tomatoes, at least I did.
 Mike's steak was perfect.
I had grouper which is one of their specialties and a seasonal item and was yum.  Fortunately I didn't see the picture of a grouper fish until after.

We also did not know that black-eyed peas are really beans.

One of their first cash registers.

The restuarant has one of the largest taxidermy collections in the US, all of which came from animals who died in captivity - they make sure you know they weren't hunted.  We wished that our cousin Berkeley could have been there.
Yes "Lily" is real - and behind glass - close enough for us.

Everything is done in the old wood - these are the bathroom sinks.

This is behind the restaurant as we went in
 and when we came out.
and then to a performance of Lion King at Times Union Center which sits on an inlet of the St. Johns River.  The lights and bridges and water give it a magical feel.

If you ever get a chance to see Lion King - it is worth your time.  The animals are a creation of animation and costume and puppetry and technology - almost incomprehensible as to how they could all work.  There is a person or persons that are part of them to give the action. if you look you can tell on the giraffes where the person's hands are on the front feet and his legs on the back legs. On the zebras you can see their legs are the front legs, the back they work like puppets.

Simba and under him Zazu.  The way the actors move them, they almost seem real sometimes.

The hyenas were fun

By now you are probably wondering if we are serving a mission or vacationing.  Our daily schedule at the Institute doesn't provide interesting pictures.  We are busy and enjoy the young adults and the missionaries - and each other.
We are grateful for the scriptures, for prayer and for the peace and learning that comes from those, and very grateful for the peace that comes even when things aren't completely trouble free:
John 14:27 - Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
